Trimox Product Description
Trimax is an antibacterial drug from the group of penicillins, with a broad spectrum of antimicrobial action. Antibiotic Trimox provides a bactericidal and anti-bacterial effect on many aerobic gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, disrupts the intracellular bacteria multiplication and destroys them.
Trimox antibiotic is prescribed to adults and elderly patients for treatment of infections of respiratory and genitourinary tracts, and gastrointestinal infections. In some cases, Trimox can be indicated as an additional antimicrobial agent for treatment of H. pylori infection and duodenal ulcer disease in adults.
Trimox good tolerability and high safety profile allow to use this antibiotic in children and babies aged over 3 months for treatment of acute and chronic bronchitis, bronchial pneumonia, ear, nose, and throat infections. In addition, Trimox is effective in treatment of pyelonephritis, cystitis, and urethritis.
In treatment of any above infections, antibiotic therapy with Trimox is recommended to be conducted for at least 7 days. Typically, an adult dose of Trimox antibiotic for adults is 250 to 500 mg (one capsule of 500 mg or 250 mg every eight hours).
A dose of antibiotic Trimox for treatment of children is adjusted depending on the child's body weight. A single dose for pediatric patients weighing less than 40 kg should not exceed 25 mg per kg of body weight.
If the patient has forgotten to take a Trimox pill, he or she should take it as soon as possible, unless it is the time for the next dose of the drug. The next daily dose of antibiotic is to be taken normally (no double, at the same time).
Clinical studies have demonstrated that Trimox antibiotic is effective against Neisseria gonorrhoea, thus the antibiotic can be administered for treatment of gonorrhea in adults and children. An adult dose of Trimox is 3g as a single dose. Prepubertal children are prescribed with 50 mg of Trimox per kg of body weight as a single dose.
Keep antibiotic Trimox at 25°C. Storage between 15 to 30°C is allowed. To protect the drug from moisture and light, it is recommended to keep the drug in the original light-resistant container away from children.
Trimox Safety Information
Trimax may cause development of pseudomembranous colitis (severe inflammation of the bowel) in some patients. The reason of acute intestinal inflammation is in toxins produced by a spore-forming bacterium Clostridium difficile, disrupting the normal intestinal flora.
If the patient experiences such symptoms as watery diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, fever, application of Trimox should be discontinued. Usually, mild pseudomembranous colitis dissapears over time, but serious forms require an appropriate therapy against Clostridium difficile.
